Poljčane
The settlement in Dravska valley already existed in antique times. In the middle of the 19th century they built a railway from Vienna to Trieste and the population was higher every day. Poljčane has it own school, a post office and a coal mine. They even built a power-station on the river Dravinja. There is Boč, a 979 meters high hill, there is a flower you cannot find anywhere else in the world, it is called VELIKONOČNICA (Easter Flower). It blooms at Easter time.
Studenice was already known in the Middle Ages. Dominicans found their shelter by the Topli potok. There is the castle Studenice, which was built because of the Turkish invasions, but was left in ruins after the great fire in Studenice in 1788. There is the church of Sv. Trije kralji (the Three Holy Kings). At Christmas time there are famous nativity plays.
Makole is a settlement in Dravinjska valley. For the first time it was mentioned in 1375 and in 1493 it got mills, a brick factory and its own coal mine. Makole has got the longest cave in Štajerska region, it’s called Jama Belojača. In the centre of the village there is the church of Sv. Andrej (St. Andrew). In Makole there are famous Forma Viva sculptures.
